The MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy yesterday launched its popular annual Independence Boxing Bonanza series, which will take place at the Windhoek Country Club on 21 April.
This year’s bonanza will again be held under the theme ‘Together As One’ and will mark the nineth edition of the commemorative event, which celebrates the country’s independence anniversary annually.
The event promises to be a night of exhilarating fights and will be headlined by the stable’s top prospects such as Charles Shinima and Paulinus Ndjolonimus, who will both defend their WBO titles in their respective weight classes.
Shinima, who has a flawless record of 15 wins from 15 fights, is set to take on Henriques Lando, an Angolan boxer who resides in South Africa. He holds a record of eight wins and four losses from 12 fights.
Meanwhile, Ndjolonimus, who boasts an equally impressive record of 15 straight wins from the same number of bouts, will face Mbiya Kanku, a Congolese boxer with six wins, three losses, and one draw from his 10 fights.
At the official launch, Shinima expressed his excitement to return to the ring and said he is in peak physical condition and ready to send his opponent to the canvas.
“I am thrilled about the upcoming bout. I have been keeping myself busy with training and I believe I am in the best shape of my life. I am prepared to face my opponent and do what I am known for, which is sending them to the canvas. Over the past few years, I have overcome numerous opponents, and I am confident I will do the same when we face each other next month,” he confidently stated.
Ndjolonimus shared similar sentiments, and is confident in his ability to defend his title.
“I have a track record of knocking out all my previous opponents, and I am confident that I will do the same to this guy. With my team’s excellent preparation and my current state of peak fitness, I am grateful for their support. However, my opponent should also prepare for what’s coming because this won’t be an easy bout for him,” he warned.
Promoter and trainer Nestor ‘Sunshine’ Tobias, buoyed by the success of his stable, urged all boxing enthusiasts to come out in numbers and witness what promises to be another unforgettable night of boxing.
“Sunshine Academy is undeniably one of the biggest and most successful boxing stables globally, boasting a significant number of boxers in the top 50 rankings of the world. This achievement is a testament to our stable’s incredible success, and we take immense pride in our team’s hard work and dedication. Even big stables worldwide do not have as many boxers in that ranking as we do. I strongly believe we are on the right track, and I urge all boxing enthusiasts to come in large numbers to witness top-notch boxing,” said Tobias.
