Namibia’s leading boxing academy, the MTC Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy, yesterday became a beneficiary of another million-dollar sponsorship after local sports betting company PstBet announced a three-year sponsorship worth N$2.7 million.
The Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy, which has over the years been primarily sponsored by MTC, will now be co-sponsored by PstBet.
Speaking at the sponsorship handover ceremony in the capital, PstBet founder Steve Hamunyela said their decision to become co-sponsors of the academy is not merely anchored around creating more exposure for their brand but is primarily aimed at creating more opportunities for the country’s young and professional boxers.
“We are not only interested in putting our logos and brands on billboards, but our strategy has always been to create lasting relationships and partnerships with the clubs, academies and communities we operate in.
“As a sport betting company, this sponsorship to the Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy again shows how serious we are about our corporate social responsibility towards our communities and partners.
“This is a highly organised boxing academy in the country and we are proud to be associated with it through this sponsorship of N$2.7 million over three years,” said Hamunyela.
The PstBet leadership also thanked the academy’s principal sponsor MTC for the willingness and openness to allow them to come on board as co-sponsors, saying it is not the norm for corporate giants like MTC and others to willingly share branding
space worth millions of dollars with other entities considered small in the corporate world.
Nestor Tobias, the founder of the MTC Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy, said PstBet is one of the fastest-growing sports brands in the country and is one of those brands that take their growth and expansion very seriously, hence MTC’s decision to
allow them to come on board.
“As an academy, we are very happy and proud to be associated with PstBet. The phenomenal story of PstBet is there for all to see and that is why MTC and we, as an academy, agreed to take this relationship further. This sponsorship is not only beneficial for the academy’s boxers, but it is good for the entire local boxing fraternity as it will offer more opportunities for all the country’s boxers,” said an excited Tobias, whose academy has produced a multitude of world and continental champions.
“I want to assure PstBet that your investment will be well taken care of and from here going forward, we will walk
hand in hand to take Namibian boxing to the next level. For us at the academy, it is now up to us to make sure that the PstBet and MTC brands continue to be at the forefront
of our success stories across American boxing venues, European venues and across Africa.”
