OMUTHIYA – The Oshikoto police have opened a case of hunting of wild animals without a permit against two male suspects after they allegedly hunted and killed two spring hares in the Okuma area.
The region’s crime investigation coordinator Titus Ekandjo said on Monday, the 36-year-old Namibian man and a 25-year-old Angolan man were arrested on Saturday around 21h00 at Okuma area in the Onanke police jurisdiction in Oshikoto’s Omuntele constituency.
“This was an intelligence-driven operation conducted by law-enforcement agencies that led to the arrest of the duo who allegedly hunted and killed wild animals,” he said.
It is alleged that the suspects cooked and ate the hunted animals.
“Law-enforcers found four suspects at the crime scene but two of the suspects managed to run away,” added Ekandjo.
The two spring hares were killed with an unknown instrument.
The suspects will appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, and police investigations continue.
