AmaZulu and Namibian international left-back Riaan Hanamub looks set to remain at the club next season after Usuthu activated a clause to extend his current deal.
The 29-year-old Hanamub has established himself as one of the leading full-backs in the league and with the Brave Warriors, the Namibian senior national football team that made history at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations by making it to the Round of 16 for the first time, and also winning their first match at the tournament, beating highly fancied Tunisia 1-0.
Asked if his contract is being extended, the Namibian who is currently captaining the Warriors squad for the Fifa World Cup African qualifiers, responded: “We will see the outcome in the next few weeks”.
Having starred in their first-ever knockout stage qualification, Hanamub was linked to several clubs across the continent including Orlando Pirates.
But iDiski Times has been informed Usuthu has activated their option to extend his contract by a further season, which was due to expire in July 2024.
Hanamub will now continue with the KZN-based club under a potential new rebuild with head coach Pablo Franco Martin next season.
Since he arrived from Chippa United in July 2022, Hanamub has featured 66 times for the club, scoring one goal with six assists. – idiski times
