Local racehorse enthusiasts will be in for a rollercoaster ride when the Angermund Racing Club hosts its Standard Bank-sponsored event at the revered Okahandja Turf tomorrow.
This weekend’s races will be one of four remaining events for the year, and one of the race organisers Zuma Kavirombo said they are again expecting the country’s top racehorses to grace the event as there will be exciting prizes for the winners of the various categories.
The race will comprise 15 plates and as customary, participants from all corners of the country will be in attendance, with Kavirombo saying tomorrow’s race will go a long way in setting the tone on who will finish the year on a high. “We are expecting an exciting race, one that will be very tough as well. The race will offer 15 plates in total, and as you know by now, all veteran horses will come to Okahandja to once again compete for bragging rights and also send a strong message ahead of the other major upcoming year-end races for 2022. I can equally confirm that the Handicap 1400m race will be the biggest on the day as the top horse is guaranteed to win N$5000 00. We have received an overwhelming number of entries and we are looking forward to the weekend,” enthused Kavirombo.
There will be no international participants. “Unfortunately, we won’t have any invited horses from across the border as this event is strictly for local horses and riders. We, however, anticipate to have them at our next event, which will take place on 5 November in Gobabis.”
