WALVIS BAY – An employee of a small lithium mine in the Uis area died in a freak accident when he fell off a front-end loader.
A second employee, who also sustained injuries, is being treated at the Omaruru State Hospital.
Crime investigations coordinator for the Erongo region Erastus Iikuyu said the driver, after the accident, fled the scene.
He said the three men were working when the front-end loader slid down from the mountain they were working on.
“Both passengers fell and he died at the scene. The driver was not at the scene, and we were informed that he allegedly packed his bed and left. We are in the process of tracing him,” Ikuyu said.
Meanwhile, police are investigating a murder case after a decomposed body of a baby was discovered at the Walvis Bay dumping site on Thursday.
Police now suspect the person gave birth, killed the baby, and dumped the body at the dumping site.
According to Iikuyu, a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
He then appealed to anyone who might have information that could lead to the suspect to contact him at 081 235 110 8 or the nearest police station.
