Blue Waters out to avoid relegation axe…as netball league action continues

Blue Waters Netball Club head coach Juanita Witbeen has said this weekend will mark a vital turning point in their 2022 league campaign, as they will be required to put their best foot forward to beat Tigers and Afrocat Lions.

Blue Waters will tomorrow square off against Tigers at the Kuisebmond netball courts in Walvis Bay, before turning their attention to Afrocat Lions in another premier league clash at the same venue.

If they are to resuscitate their ailing MTC Namibia Netball Premier League (NNPL) campaign, Witbeen has suggested that her charges will need to go the extra mile.

Blue Waters are currently third from the bottom on the 12-team log table, and will be hoping to grab maximum results from their Tigers and Afrocat Lions’ encounters. Tigers are currently stationed fourth on the log and Afrocat Lions seventh.

“It is going to be another tough weekend for us, but these are very important games for us as we want to improve our position on the log. We remain in the danger zone, and we want to positively change that position at the end of the weekend, meaning we have to win both those matches,” she noted.

Witbeen added that they have studied their opponents very well and prepared accordingly for the tough task at hand, and it is now up to the players to execute their game plans.

“The girls have been training hard, and I believe we are well on course. We, however, have one of our shooters who has been ruled out due to injury, but this will also grant an opportunity to other players to come forth and compete for the team,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Eleven Arrows’ coach Bobsey Musambani shared his team’s readiness for the weekend matches, saying their mission is to collect positive results against Grootfontein Netball Club and Young Stars, whom they face tomorrow and Sunday at the Kuisebmond netball courts.

“We don’t take any matches lightly. We treat all teams the same, and this will require from us to put in more work in order to get the wins. Our opponents are very competitive, and it will also push us to work harder for the points,” he said.

Also, tomorrow at the Kuisebmond netball courts, MTC NNPL log leaders Mighty Gunners will take on Afrocat Lions, while the Navy Netball Club will take to the court against the Namibian Correctional Services team. On Sunday, Tigers will lock horns against Northern Fly Ballers.
