The second edition of the Fatima Artistic Hair Exhibition will take place at the Katutura Community Arts Centre Boiler Room on Saturday.
The project is an initiative of Fatima Baleka, and aims to celebrate and honour black women’s natural hair, skin colour and beauty.
Women of all sizes, shapes, weight, height and background will model hairstyles representing each of the 54 African states and a story it is most famous for.
“This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating and honouring Africa’ in terms of its resources, what Africa exports, the growth of Africa as a whole and so forth,” explained Baleka.
The platform will also see women expressing themselves in different ways like singing, acting and dancing, as well as petitioning for women’s rights, and “not only black women, but all women of every colour”.
Although she does not have a background in doing hair “whatsoever”, Baleka told VIBEZ! that she always has good ideas and is artistic.
She said the first exhibition that took place last year delivered in terms of her expectations, despite challenges with time management and facilities, but this year’s event will be bigger and better.
The hairstyles were already created on Wednesday, while a photoshoot took place yesterday, with the final touch-ups to be done on Saturday.
Various products such as food, drinks, jewellery, clothes and hair products will be for sale by various vendors.
