OSHAKATI – A case of attempted murder was opened against a 17-year-old girl for stabbing a 29-year-old woman with an Okapi knife on Monday night during an alleged fight over a boyfriend.
The incident, which left the victim in a critical condition, took place at Okandjengedi location in Oshakati.
It is alleged that the victim, Tusneld Nhida, was stabbed in her right chest and back with an Okapi knife and sustained serious injuries.
It is also alleged that the teenage suspect is a habitual stabber, as she was out on bail for a similar offence.
According to Oshana police spokesperson Thomas Aiyambo, the victim, suspect and the alleged boyfriend were travelling in the area of Okandjengedi at midnight when the fight broke out.
“There is no clear information on how exactly it happened because there are two different stories from the suspect, and we are yet to confirm what led to the assault. There is also no information about the alleged boyfriend, and he is being traced,” he said, adding that the investigation officer could not obtain further information from Nhida, as she is in a critical condition.
The alleged boyfriend’s whereabouts are unknown at the moment.
The suspect is formally charged and will appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court.
“She remains in custody because she was out on bail for a similar offence. She will be represented by her guardian.”
According to police statistics, it is the first case of attempted murder reported in the region since January 2022.
