Welwitschias lay ambush for Blue Bulls

Namibia’s rugby fifteen, the Welwitschias, will be ready to match the visiting Blue Bulls Invitation XV neck-to-neck when the two sides lock horns for the Officeconomix Goodwill Cup this weekend at the Hage Geingob stadium in the capital.

The match will also serve as preparation for the Welwitschias, who are still gunning for a spot at the 2023 Rugby World Cup to be held in France.

Speaking to New Era Sport yesterday, Chrysander Botha who will be in charge of the team that will face the Bulls said they have already gathered great players and by tomorrow, the final squad for the weekend’s clash will be selected.

“We are expected to have our first training session together as a team today (yesterday). We have players from across the country and everyone is ready to give their best,” he said.

The Officeconomix Goodwill challenge will include various events starting with the NRU’s development rugby programme or ‘tjokker rugby’ at 08h00, followed by primary school matches as well as a women’s match, before the main match between the Welwitschias and Blue Bulls Invitation XV.

The entrance fee is N$40 and tickets can be bought online at Web Tickets Namibia.
