RUNDU – A 39-year-old unlicensed driver was held in police custody on Saturday after he reported himself at the Rundu police charge office, shortly after ramming his car into a 26-year-old woman who was crossing the road at the Nakazaza village along the Rundu-Nkurenkuru road.
The victim died on the spot.
The suspected driver was travelling from a burial at Mupini village in Kavango West when the unfortunate incident happened at about 12h30.
He was due to appear in court yesterday, charged with one count of culpable homicide as well as driving without a valid licence.
“The driver, who was driving a black Golf with registration N 351 RU from Sauyemwa location in Rundu, was arrested. The next of kin of the deceased were informed. Police investigations are underway,” said Kavango West police chief Josephat Abel.
He further warned unlicensed drivers to refrain from driving vehicles to avoid the losses of lives on Namibian roads.
