The Suko White All-Star Tournament, an eagerly-anticipated annual event, is set to take place in Crawley, West Sussex, in the United Kingdom from 10 to 11 August this year.
The event promises to bring together a plethora of talented soccer players to compete for cash prizes, while also featuring a musical concert headlined by Namibia’s Oviritje artists Diop, Skelly, Tjonga and Suko White, the main organiser.
Menongongo Gloria Kejarukua, widely known as Suko White, shared with VIBEZ! the excitement surrounding the anticipated event.
She said it would be an all-star soccer event with competitive matches.
“My passion for soccer and my desire to create a platform for athletes led to the inception of this tournament,” she said.
She said the event has been on the social scene yearly since its inception in August 2022.
“I have ingeniously combined the soccer tournament with a live music show. This fusion creates a unique experience, blending sports and entertainment. Attendees can enjoy matches during the day, and groove to live music performances in the evening… The event primarily features local talent. I’m open to collaborations with UK performers and soccer teams. Bringing international artists and athletes on board would enhance the event’s appeal,” she said.
Kejarukua, who also formed part of the musical group Ongoro Nomundu, has been in the UK for 10 years, and has been navigating the artistic scene and connecting with fellow creatives. “I am involved in many endeavours while working, studying and exploring various interests. Life as a musician in a new country involves challenges, growth and exciting opportunities,” she said.
She feels the event will foster a sense of unity among Namibian nationals living in the UK.
“Given my Namibian roots and my role in organising the event, I expect many Namibian nationals to attend. The sense of community and pride associated with my involvement will draw Namibians living abroad to support the tournament,” she said. She started her musical journey in the early 2000s with the Namibian group Ongoro Nomundu, and has thus far released 10 albums, including her solo featuring the group.
“To my fans abroad and in Namibia, I express gratitude and excitement. Stay tuned for updates, and let’s make this event unforgettable,” she said.Fans in the diaspora can contact them through her website: www.sukowhitekejarukua.co.uk, or via email at skejarukua1989@gmail.com.
