Namibia bags bronze in Rugby Africa Cup

The Welwitschias of Namibia clinched the bronze medal in the Rugby Africa Cup after a hard-fought victory over Kenya.

They won 38-27 in Kampala, Uganda yesterday. Namibia’s path to the bronze medal began with a commanding 38-5 win over Burkina Faso. Despite the final scoreline, the Namibians faced a tough challenge, and only managed to break through the opposition’s defence in the 33rd minute thanks to Quirione Majiedt, who scored the first of his two tries.

The Namibians encountered a setback in their second match, as Zimbabwe delivered a powerful performance to defeat Namibia 32-10. This victory marked only Zimbabwe’s fourth win in 34 matches against Namibia, and their first in 21 years, sending a clear message about their intentions for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Before going to print, Zimbabwe and Algeria were preparing to face off in the tournament finale, a match anticipated to be highly-competitive.
