Rössing Uranium handed over sponsorship of N$50 000 to the SFC Swakopmund Sport Club for its annual youth tournament.
The tournament is slated for the weekend of 9 to 11 August, and again from 14 to 15 September.
It will see teams from Windhoek, Rosh Pinah, Swakopmund and the northern part of the country coming together to compete.
Speaking at the handover, Rössing Uranium’s corporate communications manager Daylight Ekandjo said youth and sports are part of the mine’s corporate social responsibility investment focus areas.
“We take keen interest in investing in youth development activities such as this, and we are continuously looking for opportunities to invest in youth development projects. The work of SFC is noted and the impact is what we need to develop sports in this country,” he said. SFC technical director Gerald Güther thanked Rössing for the sponsorship, and said the funds will go a long way in ensuring that young sport talent is identified and developed.
“Thank you Rössing for the sponsorship, which will enable us to have a smooth tournament and make sure the young ones get the platform to display and develop their skills,” he said.
