Following their victory in the region’s second division, Omaheke Nampol head coach Gottfried Maritshane said the journey to the first division is not yet achieved. The Omaheke second division league comprised 12 teams.
Maritshane told New Era Sports that the playoffs are the deciding factor for the team’s participation in the country’s second-tier league.
“We are happy that we won the league, but not guaranteed automatic promotion to the first division. We must emerge from the playoffs, and then we are secured,” said the coach.
He attributed his team’s outstanding performance in the league to the players’ commitment and determination to win the league.
“We only lost two games in the first leg. We became stronger in the second leg without a defeat, and that shows the teamwork,” said the head coach.
He then called on the supporters to rally behind the team for playoffs.
“We are still not sure about the dates of the preliminary games, but my boys, despite celebrating their league victory, are training, as the journey awaits us ahead,” he added. He aimed to bring the first division football to Omaheke after five years.
“We are happy to see premier league football in our region – thanks to Young African, and we are also on the same mission,” he said. Asked whether the team will add new players should their first division dream come true, he said that would be fact.
“Of course, we will bolster our team with new players as most of our players were at police training, and could not play in the second round of the league,” stated the coach, who also holds the rank of inspector in the police force.
The team, comprising mainly of policemen in the region, won the league with 51 points, followed by Tura Cosmos in second place, and the third was by Omaheke Mega Save, with 47 and 45 points, respectively.
The three teams at the bottom of the table are Golden Boys at the 10th position, Tough Guys at 11 and Mathata, who cemented the 12th spot.
The publication is reliably informed that there is no relegation for the bottom teams, as there is no third division league establishment in the Omaheke region.
