The National Youth Service has selected 100 young people from all 14 regions who will be trained in the charcoal and biomass production industry.
As its mandate is to offer personal development programmes and create employment for Namibians between the ages of 16 and 35, NYS earlier this month called on interested youth to register for training in charcoal production, where 100 people were selected countrywide, averaging seven people per region.
The registration was open to former and current trainees of the National Youth Service, and all unemployed Namibian youth who are interested in pursuing careers in charcoal and biomass production.
NYS said commissioner Felix Musukubili the training will run for five months, which will comprise three months of theory and two months of practical training.
In light of high unemployment among the Namibian youth, it offers a good opportunity for personal growth and capacity-building. After the training, the trainees will be in that industry for 12 months.
“The trainees will be awarded recognised qualifications in biomass and charcoal production, and recognised certificates in medical aid, and they will be given a monthly allowance during the training period,” said Musukubili.
