Nedbank Namibia, through its Avo SuperShop, is the official sponsor of the Desert Ice Cricket T20 League, one of the country’s most prestigious cricket leagues.
Nedbank has partnered Impact Cricket Namibia with the aim of developing young talent, and growing the sport in the country.
The bank provided sponsorship of N$50 000, which will enable the league access to essential resources to enable the organisers to host exceptional cricket events during the tournament, which will ultimately aid in the continued success and expansion of cricket in the community.
Nedbank Namibia’s Head of Beyond Banking Roean Kruger said these are exciting times to be a responsible corporate entity.
“At Nedbank Namibia, we are driven by our purpose of being money experts who do good in the communities, and in everything we do. This collaboration with Impact Cricket Namibia will reinforce our commitment of supporting initiatives that promote teamwork, discipline and a healthy lifestyle,” said Kruger. The league commenced in April this year, and consists of eight teams with 120 players, including some of the country’s upcoming cricket players, as well as premier league and national players.
The league is set to host games in Gobabis and Tsumeb simultaneously this weekend, where Gobabis Akademi is set to take on Okahandja CC and Unam Zebras on Saturday at Gobabis Gymnasium.
The Tsumeb Gymnasium team is set to take on RW-Southern Kings and RW-Predator Nation on Saturday at the Tsumeb Gymnasium sport fields.
The tournament will culminate in semi-final matches and a final to be played at the Walvis Bay Oval during the weekend of 13 and 14 July.
The winners of the league will receive prizes courtesy of the Avo SuperShop.
