King Tee Dee cancels activities

Awarding-winning artist Martin Morocky, also known as King Tee Dee, has cancelled most of the activities he had scheduled for the year.

The artist announced early this month that this year’s Standard Bank 09 Music Festival, (which he started in 2018 under the name 2909 Music Festival), will not take place as scheduled.

The annual event was planned to take place tomorrow at the University of Namibia (Unam) campus in Windhoek.

While the decision to postpone the festival was difficult, Morocky said in a media statement various factors had made this necessary.

Despite the setback, he said they had already started planning for the 2025 edition, promising to host an even more spectacular event.

“We apologise to our loyal supporters for this unexpected news. We understand the festival is a highlight for many, and we are committed to delivering an unforgettable experience in 2025,” he said.

The Standard Bank 09 Music Festival is known for its eclectic mix of musical genres, featuring both local and international artists. From hip-hop to R&B, from soul to jazz, the festival offers something for everyone. The event also played a crucial role in promoting local talent, and fostering a sense of community.

Despite the postponement, Morocky expressed gratitude to the festival’s sponsors, including Standard Bank Namibia, Tafel Lager and others, saying their support has been instrumental in making the festival a success over the years.

“We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our sponsors. Their generosity has allowed us to showcase local talent, enhance festival experiences and support local vendors,” he said.

The musician also called off The King Tee Dee 70km Walk4Education that was scheduled for 20 and 21 September.

Participants were expected to walk from Okahandja to Windhoek to raise funds for educational purposes in the country.

King Tee Dee also wrote on his social media page that he plans relocating to South Africa for a better market for his brand, Mshasho.
