World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa super middleweight champion Paulinus Ndjolonimus will face Ghana’s Abubakar Mubarak in a highly anticipated title match next month. The two fighters will clash in the main event of the ‘Your Vote Count’ boxing bonanza, set to take place at the Windhoek Country Club and Casino. The event, scheduled for 16 November, will feature 12 fights. It is being held in honour of Namibia’s democracy.
It aims to encourage citizens to vote in the upcoming national elections on 27 November.
Ndjolonimus, who boasts an undefeated record of 18 wins with 16 knockouts, will take on Mubarak, who is also unbeaten with 12 wins, including nine knockouts.
In the main supporting bout, Mateus Heita will take on Zimbabwe’s Tatenda Mungombe for the WBO Africa featherweight title, while Harry Simon Junior will face Abed Shikongo for the vacant WBO Africa welterweight title.
In a statement, promoter Nestor Tobias emphasised the significance of democracy in the country, stating:
“We are honoured to celebrate Namibia’s democracy through boxing. We hope everyone will come out to support our champions, and cast their votes on election day. This event not only showcases the best of Namibian boxing but also highlights the importance of voting and preserving peace and stability,” he said.
He encouraged boxing fans to attend the event, further promising top-class action on the night of the fight.
“It’s going to be an exciting event for all boxing lovers, and I call on fans across the nation to come and witness greatness. This event is also part of our effort to inspire more people to vote,” he added. The ticket price is N$200 for general admission, while tables are pegged at N$20 000.
