NamWater sponsors Ohangwena athletics club

The Ohangwena Athletics Club is grateful to NamWater for helping to make their trip to Potchefstroom, South Africa, possible.

The sport club’s spokesperson Teofelus Moses in an interview with Nampa yesterday said NamWater has pulled its financial muscle by helping 22 athletes to enable them to participate in the NWU Top 30 Athletics Championships in Potchefstroom.

The championship is slated for 10 to 12 October 2024 at the McArthur Stadium.

According to Moses, NamWater helped the team to pay for their accommodation which is N$44 600, and this gesture came at the right time as the team was preparing to travel and participate without accommodation.

“We were planning to camp at the police station in Potch,” he said.

He added that the athletes are working hard towards qualifying for the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA.

“We really want to thank NamWater for this noble gesture toward sport development in Namibia particularly athletics,” said Moses.

He said their participation in Potchefstroom is a developmental initiative of the Ohangwena Athletics Club to give opportunities to young athletes to discover their potential.

Further, Moses indicated that the team also received sponsorship from LMH Investment CC for t-shirts and Interpack Namibia who gave water bottles to the team.

The travelling team consists of athletes from the Ohangwena, Oshana, Oshikoto and Omaheke regions. NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata said they are proud to be a
sponsor of the Ohangwena Athletics Club as part
of their corporate social investment (CSI) programme.

“Our investment in sport is rooted in our belief that sports development plays a crucial role in the holistic growth of communities and the well-being of individuals, especially the youth,” he said. – Nampa
