Namibia’s leading boxing stable, the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy, will soon be adding its voice to the ongoing political message for Namibians to go all out and cast their votes in the national elections, slated for 27 November 2024.
As part of its social responsibility, the academy’s owner Nestor Tobias, said they will be hosting a boxing bonanza centred around the country’s upcoming elections and the event will be themed; “Your Vote Counts Boxing Bonanza.”
It will be held on 16 November at the Windhoek Country Club in the capital, and will see the undefeated Paulinus Ndjolonimus taking on Ghanaian opponent Abubaka Mubarak in what is anticipated to be a thrilling clash.
Ndjolonimus currently boasts an impressive record of 19 wins from 19 fights, while his Ghanaian opponent Mubarak has an equally clean record of 12 wins from the same number of bouts. The two will square off for the African Super middleweight title.
Speaking at the event’s launch yesterday in Windhoek, an upbeat Ndjolonimus said he is happy to be returning to the ring,as he is striving to improve his record and eventually get a shot at the world title.
“I want to thank my promoter for always working hard to ensure that we have quality fights. As boxers, we belong in the ring, and having a fight improves how we perform at a bigger stage. As for this fight, I will be facing someone who has an undefeated record, and I know that it won’t be an easy one. But I want to achieve my goal, and that means I must go there and make my promoter and trainers proud,” he said
The bonanza will also see other fighters in action on the night, with Mateus Heita taking on Tatenda Biningu of Zimbabwe for the WBO Africa featherweight title.
Heita, who has an impressive record of 13 fights with 13 wins, assured his fans that he will get the job done.
“I want to thank my promoter for another opportunity, and it is now up to us to do the remaining work. We have been training hard with our sparring partners, but I want to assure fans that come 16 November, I will shine like I always do,” said a confident Heita.
Jeremiah Nakathila will also be in action when he takes on Fafadwa Nushando in the lightweight division.
In terms of his readiness, Nakathila said; “It is my third fight this year in Namibia, and it’s a full circle moment for me, as the last time I fought three fights on home soil was about four years ago. I am thankful for the opportunity to do what I love most, and to showcase what I am good at.”
General tickets are pegged at N$200, while a VIP table seating 10 people is going for N$20 000.
