I have been slacking on our monthly tradition. I might as well apologize seeing that is all I have been doing of late. Anyhow…if you are new to this, allow me to contextualize this for you.
Every month I share a personal playlist of strictly Namibian music. When I say personal, I mean this is music I consume in my private circle.
As usual, evidently, there is a need to add a disclaimer: The list I share monthly is not a New Era list. It is not sanctioned by New Era or endorsed by the publication in any way. This list is not a Fresh FM list either. I do not own Fresh FM. Fresh FM has its own management, rules and processes.
This has nothing to do with playlisting it on the radio or getting your song on the radio. This list is in no way related to any other business I am involved with. I am a music-loving Namibian. I staunchly believe I should be allowed a personal opinion on this.
Once again… please understand that these songs are on my personal playlist. They are songs I play in my personal setting. No agenda whatsoever… just a pure feel and love for music. Now, unto the music.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how much of a musical genius Dee’A has become? My favorite Dee’A song is Ombili. It’s a song he dropped during the peak Covid-19 season. He dropped another song that is challenging ‘Ombili’ for the number one spot. His new song Efilonghenda ft. King Tee Dee and Neslow is nothing short of pure art. Dee’A studied the D-Naff blueprint and made it his own.
Also Neslow? I guess when you have it…you will always have it. Staying with Gospel…sigh, Collective Singers. Wow, man. I am lost for words at how this ensemble keeps churning out heartwarming music. Music that comforts you during your deepest days. Music that also drives you on during your happy days. I recently was under keen public scrutiny after a much-publicised incident. Only my closest circle understands how that incident affected me. Perhaps one day I will reveal how it affected me. But notwithstanding that… Collective Singers’ Hosiana was literally my saving grace.
That song literally saved my life. Among a few other things, everything about this song is world-class. The harmonies, the instrumentation, the vocals, the storytelling, the visuals. Thing is…I am not quite done with the song. Give me a couple of months then I will properly describe what this song is. I am still dumbfounded at how powerful the song ‘Hosiana’ is. Thank you, Collective Singers.
Ome Den Den is still here because of ‘Hosiana’. Namibia still has NSK because of ‘Hosiana’. The world will one day appreciate the talent and brilliance that is NSK because of ‘Hosiana’. Thank you, moving on…her name is Prime-Rose!!!
Prime Rose took the country by storm with her hit ‘#Nau-Mai’ which features Jaliza. She recently dropped an album that perhaps gives us access to who she really is as an artist. There are three songs I found that are driving me crazy!!!
Anybody that follows my career, knows that I love new school RnB. Elaine, Joda Kgosi, Treza Cooper, Ian Lovely and Kamal type of RnB. Prime-Rose served that at the highest level with ‘Sounds like’. Oh, my freaking goodness. She then continues to demonstrate her versatility with Triggered and Let You. It’s clear that Prime-Rose does not want to be boxed in. It’s clear with this album she is saying: “I can do more than just Ma /gaisa.”
