IN a significant move to strengthen their attacking options, AmaZulu FC has reached an agreement with Chippa United to sign Namibian striker Elmo Kambindu.
The deal is expected to provide a much-needed boost to AmaZulu’s frontline as they continue to grapple with scoring issues.
Kambindu (31) has built a solid reputation as a dynamic and versatile forward. Known for his aerial dominance, sharp finishing, and relentless work rate, the Namibian striker’s arrival at AmaZulu comes as the club seeks to remedy their struggles in front of goal.
This move marks a key decision for AmaZulu’s management, who are hoping Kambindu can replicate his previous successes and help them improve their position in the DStv Premiership standings.
The striker confirmed to this publication that the agreement with AmaZulu is indeed in place, though he mentioned that he still needs to undergo a medical examination before the deal can be fully finalised. While Kambindu did not provide specifics on the length of the contract, it is understood that he will be expected to join his new teammates in Durban before the end of this week.
Kambindu has spent the last two seasons with Chippa United after making the switch from the Angolan side, CD Costa de Sol, at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. During his time in the Premier Soccer League, he has featured in 43 matches, scoring five goals.
Though his time with Chippa United did not produce an overwhelming goal tally, Kambindu’s experience in South Africa’s topflight and his physical presence in the attack will be valuable assets to an AmaZulu side struggling to find their scoring touch.
He will be joining another Namibian, Riaan Hanamub, who also plies his trade for AmaZulu. “His blood is green now,” said Hanamub.
As of now, AmaZulu FC find themselves in a precarious position on the DStv Premiership log, sitting 12th out of 16 teams with just 13 points from 11 matches. Their inability to consistently convert chances into goals has been a major issue. The signing of Kambindu is seen as a direct response to this problem, with the club looking to add firepower to their forward line.
In contrast, the league’s front-runners are enjoying far more fruitful campaigns. Mamelodi Sundowns are leading the pack with an impressive 30 points, while Orlando Pirates are close behind in second place with 27 points. Polokwane City is also in the mix, occupying third place with 22 points.
Sport pundit Kavii Vezemburuka has expressed optimism about Namibian striker Kambindu’s move from Chippa United to AmaZulu in the Premiership, predicting that it will help the forward revive his football career.
Kambindu found himself sidelined at Chippa United, reportedly falling out of favour with the new coach.
“His physicality, aerial prowess, and finishing ability could be exactly what AmaZulu needs to turn their fortunes around, as they push to improve their form and climb the league table,” Vezemburuka remarked.
“The forward’s signing is a clear indication of AmaZulu’s determination to reinforce their squad, and fans will be eager to see how he adapts to life in Durban.”
Vezemburuka also highlighted that Kambindu’s recall to the Brave Warriors squad is a major boost for Namibia’s national team, which has struggled for consistency in attack.
