The Namibia Premier Football League title race is set for a thrilling conclusion this weekend after PstBet Eeshoke Chula Chula held reigning champions African Stars Football Club to a hard-fought draw, while also claiming a crucial 2–1 victory over PstBet Khomas Nampol Sports Club on Sunday.
Chula Chula now sit second on the log with 53 points, just one point behind African Stars, who responded emphatically with a 4–1 win over King Kauluma Palace Football Club to maintain their lead at the summit.
With only two round fixtures remaining, the title remains up for grabs between the two sides, setting the stage for a dramatic finale to the season.
The clash between Chula Chula and African Stars once again drew a large crowd, underlining the growing appeal of domestic football and the significance of the fixture in the title race.
Among those reflecting on the encounter was Lukas Haufiku, who highlighted the importance of fan culture and community support in driving the team forward.
“This is something good in terms of maintaining local football. The atmosphere is attracting people and motivating the players,” he said.
On the pitch, Chula Chula’s youthful squad stood firm against a vastly experienced African Stars side led by veteran midfielder and captain Ronald Katjijere.
Popularly known as “Stiga,” Katjijere continues to play a pivotal role for African Stars, defying age as he delivers consistent performances in midfield. The former Brave Warriors captain, who began his career at Unam before rising to prominence with Stars and later featuring in South Africa, remains one of the most influential figures in Namibian football.
Despite increasing competition from younger players, Katjijere has made it clear he has no immediate plans to retire, emphasising his desire to continue contributing both on and off the pitch as the title race intensifies.
As the league heads into its final weekend, both African Stars and Chula Chula remain within touching distance of the title, with experience and youthful energy set to collide one last time in what promises to be a decisive round of fixtures.
