Khomas NamPol coach Fortune Eichab said they are barely holding onto the log lead after the weekend’s tough matches in the Debmarine Premier League.
Eichab said they played tough opening matches, coming from the festive season.
“We had numerous chances to score on Saturday against Young African, and we didn’t. We even got a red card and had to readjust the match, which wasn’t easy. The match ended 0-all. On Sunday, we again played to a 0-all draw against the champions, which wasn’t an easy match. We always lose away matches, but this time around, we decided not to allow it.
“We are wary of Young African, which is right on our heels, as well as Stars and Ongos. Those two teams are in the running, and I know for a fact that Young African will cost a lot of teams trouble. So, it was not an easy weekend.
“Overall, the season will be tough. However, the transfer window is opening, so that will be good,” said Eichab.
He added that their aspiration is to finish the league in first or second place.
Young African’s Maleagi Ngarizemo said he is happy with the performance of the club so far. “I told the players that that they are the only ones who can put themselves in the situation to win the league. We will continue to perform, and will now shift our focus to the MTC Maris Cup, and hope to replicate our performance there as well.
As it stands, Khomas NamPol lead the log with 18 points from nine matches, whereas Young African is in second place with 18 points from eight matches played. Young African is still unbeaten this season. Stars are in third with 15 points from eight matches, whereas Mighty Gunners are right behind them on the same amount of points and matches played, but with a goal difference of three.
The bottom three clubs are Blue Boys (seven points from nine matches), Blue Waters (seven points from nine matches), whereas Cuca Tops sit at the bottom with six points from eight matches. -lmupetami@nepc.com.na
