OMUTHIYA – The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism has reported two separate lion sightings in the Oshikoto region on Saturday morning.
A press statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson Romeo Muyunda on Saturday said a female lion was spotted between Tsumeb and Oshivelo. Another lion was spotted at Oromowa on the western periphery of the Etosha National Park.
The ministry’s officials have responded to the report of the lion that was spotted between Tsumeb and Oshivelo.
They established through the spores that the lion is part of two adult lions and four cubs in the Onguma farm.
“We believe that one female lion went out from the farm. It was spotted and captured by travellers in a circulating video,” he added.
Muyunda said their staff had tracked the spores of the lion to the Punyu farm.
“The areas where the lion is being observed are in the commercial areas, mainly made up of private farms, reducing the risk for any possible human encounter,” he said.
He added that they encourage farmers in the area to be cautious, and safeguard themselves and their livestock.
This is while officials continue to track the lion and ensure its safe return to Onguma farm.
“In the same vein, communities in the proximity to these farms are also urged to be cautious and report any sighting to the ministry,” he said.
