ONGWEDIVA – A 24-year-old Angolan cattle herder was arrested on Monday after he allegedly raped his former girlfriend and threatened to kill her with a panga at the end of last week.
Omusati police chief Commissioner Titus Shikongo said the suspect allegedly escaped from custody the same Monday and was re-arrested on Tuesday.

He now faces an additional case of escaping from lawful custody.
The alleged rape incident happened at Otjorute village in the Ruacana constituency in Omusati.
According to Shikongo, the suspect allegedly entered the victim’s sleeping room and tied both her hands and mouth with a piece of cloth and had sexual intercourse with her without consent.

“It is further alleged that the suspect later threatened to kill the complainant with the panga and further assaulted her with open hands all over the face,” Shikongo narrated.
Following the escape of the suspect on Monday, the victim spent the night at the Ruacana police station to ensure she is safe while the fugitive was being hunted down.

The two allegedly have a child together.
The victim is a domestic worker at Otjorute village while the suspect is at Omifitu wa Kamboola in the Ruacana constituency.
