AUSC Region 5 Games get N$127 million boost

AUSC Region 5 Games get N$127 million boost

Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture Sanet Steenkamp on Tuesday announced that the Namibian government has allocated a sum of N$127.5 million for hosting the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Games.

The 11th edition of the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games is scheduled to take place in Windhoek and Swakopmund from 4 to 13 July.

The games, initially planned for Mozambique, were relocated to Namibia due to political and weather issues there.

Speaking during her budget presentation speech for the 2025/26 financial year, Steenkamp stated that an amount of N$127 500 000 has been allocated for hosting the AUSC Region 5 Games.

“This amount is for the upgrading of competition and training venues, Games Village, transportation, marketing, procurement of sports equipment and sport result management systems. A total of 2 552 athletes and technical staff from 10 countries are expected to partake,” she said.
