Farmers deliver thrills and spills at Reho Expo

The 8th edition of the annual Reho Expo, which was organised by the Rehoboth Community Trust, delivered beyond expectations as young and veteran farmers were all afforded an opportunity to showcase their products and services.

The expo was recently held at the Expo grounds at Rehoboth and attracted hundreds of attendees, entrepreneurs and farmers, who all brought a unique touch to this year’s event through the display of their products and animals.

Since its establishment, the vibrant three-day event has always managed to bring farmers, community leaders, businesses, civil society organisations and investors under one roof to exchange notes and ideas across various fields of trade.

This year, Rehoboth Mayor Justin Coetzee called on the town’s community and those from surrounding areas to buy from local farmers and in that way, create job opportunities for those working at the farms.  The many farmers who participated in the expo did not disappoint as they brought their best animals and fresh produce for marketing.

Small stock breeders showcased world-class animals and once again proved that with adequate market opportunities; they too can compete on equal footing with other farmers.

The biggest pumpkin at this year’s expo weighed a whopping 79kg and saw farmer Christie Benade walking away with the top prize.

The event is aimed at stimulating and creating a platform for showcasing young and raw talent and products, which will enable participants to learn from each other and help the community to grow in the long term. It also provides financial opportunities for the locals. The gathering was a true celebration of local pride, culture and community striving for economic upliftment.
