Nakathila unfazed by Mason threat

Namibian pugilist Jeremiah ‘Low Key’ Nakathila will square up against American Abdullah Mason in a 10-round lightweight bout in Norfolk, Virginia on 7 June.

The fight was confirmed yesterday morning in Windhoek by the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy.

The bout will serve as the co-main event on a card headlined by Keyshawn Davis and Edwin De Los Santos.

It will also be Nakathila’s fifth appearance in the United States at this level.

The 35-year-old Nakathila carries a professional record of 26 fights, with 4 losses and no draws. His 21-year-old opponent, Mason, boasts an unblemished record of 18 wins and no losses.

Nakathila’s promoter Nestor Tobias said their goal is to achieve a world record. “When Nakathila is hungry, he is dangerous,” said Tobias confidently.

Nakathila, meanwhile, remains composed ahead of the bout. “Fighting at this level isn’t new to me.

I’ve been here before. You don’t just get a call for a fight of this magnitude – I deserve it.

We’ve been analysing Mason’s strengths and weaknesses. I am ready, and will use the remaining time to monitor a few things. I am fit, and still have a point to prove by beating him.”

Meanwhile, fellow Namibian boxer Paulinus Ndjolonimus, who holds an impressive record of 19 wins with 17 knockouts, is set to face Germany’s Simon Zachenhuber on 19 July. Zachenhuber is also unbeaten with 26 victories to his name.

“There’s still enough time to add the final touches. We are going to war, and we need to be ready,” Ndjolonimus said.
