The development of Namibia’s oil and gas sector is expected to have profound economic implications, including job- creation, infrastructure development and increased government revenues.
These remarks were made by Pedro Mateus, co-founder and CEO of Lelo Meda Energies.
He added that such developments raise environmental concerns, particularly regarding managing natural gas byproducts and the potential ecological impact of offshore drilling.
“These discoveries have the potential to transform Namibia’s economy, which has traditionally relied on mining and agriculture. The Namibian government anticipates that oil production could commence by 2029, with projections suggesting that output could reach 380 000 barrels per day by 2035,” he stated.
Lelo Energies provide ongoing professional development for its
employees, including workshops, certifications and mentorship programmes.
These initiatives ensure that the team stays at the forefront of industry trends and innovations.Mateus said a proudly Namibian company, Lelo Energies is committed to ensuring that the benefits of the oil and gas industry are felt throughout the nation.
They actively support government policies aimed at maximising local content, and empowering Namibians to take on leadership roles in the sector.
“I am passionate about driving innovation and sustainability in Namibia’s energy sector. With over a decade of experience in marketing, branding and strategic management, I bring a creative and forward-thinking perspective to our operations.
My goal is to ensure that Lelo Energies not only meets the evolving demands of the industry, but also sets a benchmark for excellence and adaptability in the energy market,” Mateus remarked.
He noted that the story of Lelo Meda Energies began long before the company was established. It is rooted in the aspirations and resilience of two double first cousins, Pedro and Enoc Mateus.
Enoc is the company’s chief operations officer.Growing up, they were immersed in a world shaped by mechanics and offshore practices. Their fathers dedicated their lives to the offshore oil and gas industry.
“From a young age, we were captivated by the stories our fathers would share after long stints offshore – the camaraderie, challenges and the pride of contributing to something greater than themselves,” shared Enoc.
He stated that it was not just a job, but a way of life.
“Nearly 75% of our extended family – from uncles to cousins – found their place in this industry.
It became clear to us that this was not just a family tradition – it was a legacy.”
Enoc said: “Lelo Meda Energies was born out of a deep-seated desire to honour our fathers’ legacy, while carving our path. For us, this is not just a business. It’s a tribute to the industry that raised us, provided for us and shaped the men we’ve become”.
They said Lelo Energies is committed to leading Namibia’s energy transition by embracing innovation, expanding services, empowering communities and fostering strategic partnerships.
“Our unwavering focus on sustainability ensures that economic growth is balanced with environmental stewardship, aligning with global climate goals. As we move forward, our vision remains clear – to position Namibia as a leader in the global energy market while creating lasting value for its people, and safeguarding its unique natural heritage,” said the duo.
They are building a future where energy powers progress, innovation drives impact and sustainability defines success.
