Shanizia Da Cunha recently represented Namibia at the Miss Aura International 2025 pageant in Antalya, Türkiye.
She described the experience as both personal and transformative.
As Miss Aura Namibia, Da Cunha said she saw the opportunity not only as a platform to represent her country but also as a chance to embody the values she holds dear: confidence, culture, intelligence and purpose.
“For me, beauty has always been more than skin deep. I chose to participate in Miss Aura International because of its unique emphasis on the ‘4Bs’: beauty, brain, body and behaviour,” said the model.
Reflecting on her journey, the fashion designer said that she has always believed that true beauty lies in sincerity and the ability to make a lasting impact, rather than surface-level appeal.
She said what truly set this pageant apart was its celebration of the full spectrum of womanhood.
“It wasn’t just about looks. It was about using your voice, honouring cultural heritage, and boldly standing up for meaningful causes,” Da Cunha stated.
She said: “This was my first time competing on an international stage. It was an experience that will stay with me forever. Representing Namibia, a country rich in culture and diversity, was both an honour and a responsibility. One of my proudest moments was showcasing my national costume, inspired by the OvaHimba tribe”.
Da Cunha recalled that it sparked curiosity and admiration.
She was moved by how many people wanted to learn more about Namibia as a result.
During the competition, she was thrilled to make it to the top 10 for both the Intelligence and Bikini rounds as well as to be selected as part of the top 20 finalists out of 42 contestants from around the world.
“Reaching that level in such a competitive environment reaffirmed me that when purpose and passion meet, incredible things happen. It wasn’t just about rankings. It was about growth, courage and believing in my limitless potential,” she highlighted.
“Among the most meaningful parts of the experience was our community outreach visit to Beyaz Baston Görme Engellilier Derneği, a school for visually impaired children,” Da Cunha narrated.
“Spending time with over 180 students reminded me why advocacy matters and reinforced my mission to support mental health awareness and education. It was a full circle moment being able to give back, to connect deeply, and to represent my country with compassion,” recalled that model.
Da Cunha said the preparation for the pageant pushed her in every possible way.
Physically, she maintained a rigorous fitness and wellness routine.
“Mentally, I trained for interviews and learned to articulate my message clearly. Emotionally, I leaned on prayer, journaling and the support of my family, friends and fellow contestants. This journey showed me the power of inner resilience and importance of staying grounded in your values,” said Da Cunha.
The journey has taught her that her voice matters, and she must honour where she comes from.
In addition, she learned to embrace every challenge as a stepping stone, as “this pageant wasn’t just a competition but a catalyst for transformation”.
“To every young woman reading this, never underestimate the power of your presence, your story or your dreams. Stand tall, lead with heart, and know that you are worthy of every opportunity the world has to offer,” she noted.
