RUNDU – The body of Epafras Musese Hasindi (17) a Namibian male, was only retrieved from the Kavango River yesterday.
The police water wing had been searching since he drowned on Saturday but only reported success yesterday.
It is alleged that the deceased drowned on Saturday at Kafuma village in the Nkurenkuru area.
A search operation was immediately instituted since then by the Water Wing Unit of the Namibian Police, joined by some family members.
“The body was recovered at Kahenge in the Kavango River at around 10h30. The deceased has been identified as Epafras Musese Hasindi from Yinsu village.
Next of kin are informed,’’ said Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, who confirmed the incident to New Era.
Muronga warned riverine villagers that the river is a dangerous place.
“Our usual call remains that people and communities must use the river purposefully, to collect water for human consumption only and with caution.
Children must not dwell or play in the river, especially during this time when it is still full.
Crossing the river is also dangerous, and it must be avoided or guided by a safety mechanism,’’ he said.
