Hatika Centre hosts annual Winter Soup Drive

As part of its social outreach initiative, the Hatika Adult Education Centre (HAEC) recently hosted a winter soup drive for the underprivileged Goreangab informal settlement community.

The HAEC was established in 2019 to offer language courses to adults and art classes to children. Our vision is to create opportunities for lifelong learners.

The event was a heartfelt success, made possible through the collective effort of compassionate individuals and partners, said founder Wilfred Mbamba.

He added that the centre’s annual Winter Soup Drive is one of its flagship community outreach initiatives as “together, we continue to prove that community is built through kindness.”

The Winter Soup Drive also provided clothing to some communities to beat the winter blues, hence the collaboration with the Knit-A-Bit organisation.

“Knit-A-Bit were thoughtful in their donation of handmade binnies, and there were Samaritans who generously contributed clothing items. Their support brought warmth, smiles and comfort to many,” he said.

Established in 2019, Hatika Adult Education Centre provides languages such as English, Afrikaans and Sign Language to adults aged 18 and above.

“We also offer basic computer skills, knitting and small business management, learner’s licence, basic Mathematics, and arts and crafts for self-enrichment purposes only. All our classes take place on Saturdays,” stated Mbamba.
