Namibian boxing referee and judge Fillemon Mweya is set to officiate the World Boxing Council (WBC) International Bantamweight Championship bout tomorrow in Lusaka.
The headline clash will see Zambia’s David ‘Sniper’ Mwale go head-to-head with Ghana’s Michael Decardi Nelson in what promises to be an electrifying and competitive 12-round contest.
Mweya, a seasoned official with years of experience, expressed pride in his selection.
He said the appointment came directly from the WBC headquarters in Mexico – a recognition of his unwavering dedication, professionalism and consistency in the ring.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity. I will deliver to the best of my ability as usual. As WBC mentioned at the last convention held in Hamburg, Germany, that 2025 will be the Year of Africa, this is our year. I will shine. I am looking forward to more international assignments this year,” Mwiya remarked.
The high-stakes event is being promoted by Christopher Malunga of Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion, one of Zambia’s most active boxing promoters. -lmupetami@nepc.com.na
