Since 13 May, the powerful sounds of African Vocals have been resonating across Germany, captivating audiences with their raw emotion, goosebumps, rich harmonies and soul-stirring performances.
Joel Nambuli, the group coordinator, said although they have been exposed to many cities and cannot pinpoint a favourite, some of the highlights were singing in Cologne Cathedral for a midday service and the concert in Limburg with a huge and super enthusiastic audience.
He said the two concerts they had with their partner choir, A Light for Africa, in Siersburg and St Wendel would be unforgettable.
“The bond between African Vocals and the German audience is deep growing more and more. The fact that many destinations invited and hosted us for the third and fourth time speaks for itself. We already have a lot of invitations for 2026,” said Nambuli.
He added that some destinations feel like home.
The group’s tour ends on 4 July.
“We are very proud that a lot of people we meet in Germany come to Namibia as tourists, visiting Swakopmund and specifically meeting African Vocals. This is what we love to do, building bridges with our music and being ambassadors for our rich and diverse Namibian culture,” stated Nambuli.
African Vocals was started by five friends in Swakopmund.
The group comprises 19 singers from different ethnic groups.
Their performances, which showcase the universal language of music and the African sounds, have not only impressed but also forged a deep connection with German audiences through a blend of traditional rhythms.
He said, “Our very diverse Namibian culture has a huge influence on our music. Our group members are from different ethnic groups in Namibia. Accordingly, we present songs in the different ethnic languages of Namibia”.
Nambuli added that when the group was founded, their vision was to have a group of guys with a township background follow their dream together.
They wanted to improve their lives through music as well as support and uplift each other in a strong group in a challenging township environment.
“At the same time, we want to give a good example to kids and young people in the townships to show that even with a disadvantaged background, you can follow your dreams with discipline and persistence. You can even bring your music to Germany,” he stated.
