A small business in the heart of the community has steadily grown, not through formal advertising or external investment, but through local recognition of value. What began as a skill passed down from father to son has developed into a practical service that meets a clear community need.
Taught from an early age, Dasimana Emvula (28) acquired hands-on experience working alongside his father, gradually building technical know-how and a reputation for reliability. “I grew up with my father, and he was an auto mechanic. We have been fixing cars ever since we were young, and I felt passionate about the work,” he said.
“I got to like the work. I fell in love with fixing cars and doing electronics on cars. We have been fixing ever since my father taught me at an early age, so that’s what got me into the car business.”
When his father retired and moved to the north, the demand for affordable, accessible services grew, and community members turned to a familiar face, someone they had watched grow into the work. “My business started with just fixing cars from home. People saw my potential; they started calling, they started bringing their cars. That’s how my business started.”
Pino Tsamaseb, a recent client, said what actually made him trust the garage and trust him is that he always has his receipts and everything is in order. “He always takes a car. Once he’s done fixing or servicing the car, he takes it to the car wash, and he brings it fresh. That’s where the trust actually came from, and I do see him going far with this hustle because he treats all customers the same. He doesn’t discriminate against customers.”
Young Emvula hopes to one day expand his business and operate from his own garage, as he usually does call outs.
“I would love people having to come to my own garage where I’m working, knowing that I provide the best services that can be provided.” For now, he continues to offer his services from home, steadily growing a client base that trusts the work he’s been doing since childhood.
