Samaria urges fans to rally behind netball action

Netball Namibia vice president Conny Samaria, says speaking ahead of this weekend’s MTC Netball Premier League matches, to be held at Jan Wilken Stadium in Walvis Bay, brings great pride and excitement.

“We are now entering a critical phase of the season where every pass, every goal, and every defensive stop could change the outlook of the title race. With each fixture, we see not only fierce competition but the emergence of true talent and unwavering dedication from our clubs across the regions,” Samaria said.

She added that this weekend promises high-adrenalin action and riveting netball as teams continue jostling for dominance on the league table.

“Whether you are a seasoned supporter or a first-time spectator, I encourage you to come witness the energy, agility, and heart that define Namibian netball. Our players have been training with intensity, and their performances continue to raise the bar each week,” she said.

Samaria emphasised that the league is more than just a sporting event — it is a celebration of women in sport, athletic excellence, and community spirit. “This league, made possible through the generous sponsorship of MTC and other dedicated partners, has grown into a platform that nurtures young talent, provides competitive exposure, and brings visibility to the game we all love.”

She said fans can look forward to several key match-ups that are bound to generate interest and emotion. “Rivalries will be reignited, underdogs will rise to the occasion, and we expect the crowds to play their part in creating an electric atmosphere.”

She also highlighted the importance of regional representation and the increasing number of participants across the board. “This is a testament to the strategic work done by Netball Namibia, in collaboration with local netball committees, to decentralise the sport and invest in grassroots development. The journey to a strong and competitive national team begins with the matches we witness every weekend,” she added.

In addition, Samaria took a moment to appreciate the coaches, team managers, and medical personnel who work behind the scenes to support the players. “Their tireless efforts are a vital part of what makes this league function at the high level it does.”

“To our fans, your presence and your voices matter. When you show up in the stands or tune in online, you validate the hard work these young women are putting in week after week. Your support fuels their dreams.

“In closing, I urge everyone – from the passionate supporters in the stands to the young girls watching from home, to take part in this netball celebration. Let us continue to uplift our athletes, promote fair play, and build a stronger sporting nation together.”

“This weekend is not just another fixture list. It is a chance to witness the continued rise of Namibian netball, to cheer for excellence, and to inspire future champions. We look forward to seeing you at the courts,” she added. -lmupetami@nepc.com.na
