The second edition of the Nossobville Primary School (PS) will take place tomorrow at the school sport ground in Gobabis, Omaheke region.

Nossobville PS sports organiser Onguarije Katjivikua told New Era Sport that the annual event is composed of football and netball.

It is primarily aimed at raising funds for the school towards various needs.

Katjivikua added that the sport day exposes the talent of the learners at a tender age.

“Our focus is on the U/7 to U/13 age groups in the netball category. Football competition will be from U/7 up to U/11,” he said.

The sport officer added that the one-day event attracted local primary schools in the vicinity of Gobabis.

“We have noticed that the U/7 up to U/13 are left out in many schools’ tournaments in the region. Our aim is to revive and bring these young learners on board. It is high time to nurture these young kids at this stage before they go to secondary schools,” said Katjivikua.

The participating schools are Gobabis PS, Ben van Der Walt PS, Eudeli Private School, Khoendawes PS and Rakutuka PS.

Asked whether there will be awards for victors at the event, the sport organiser said this is not a competition but a platform for the learners to showcase their talent.

“All participating schools will be playing against each other. We want to give a fair chance to the young lads to play and not to compete for awards in this event,” he stated.

Despite the sporting activities, there will be fun games for kids, while the school will have kapana stalls to generate funds towards its development.

“We are, therefore, calling on the parents and members of the community to come and support the school in this event,” Katjivikua said.

When asked about the major needs the school may have, the organiser, a teacher at the Nossobville PS, said the school needs sport equipment and a school hall.

He said construction of the school hall has been ongoing for almost 20 years, and they want to complete that task.

Katjivikua shared with this publication that the school has a raffle book.

Tickets were sold for N$30, and the draw will be made on Saturday at 15h00 at the school sport ground.

“We have four prizes to be won on that day by the lucky winners. The first prize is a sheep, the second prize is a N$700 voucher, and the third prize is a kettle. The fourth lucky winner will win a cake,” he announced.

The sport organiser urged the community to come in numbers and play a part in the school sport day, as this will motivate learners to take sport seriously.

“This is a vital opportunity to polish our young athletes,” he said.
