Khomas Super 10 outfit, Golden Girls, extended their lead at the top of the log after recording back-to-back victories over the weekend.
On Friday, they edged Tigers 37-35 in a tightly contested match, while on Saturday they collected maximum points after Namibia Defence Force (NDF) failed to show up for their fixture.
The two wins saw Golden Girls stretch their tally to 37 points from 13 matches this season. Speaking to this publication on Saturday, head coach Jacky expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“We are happy with the results. Heading into these fixtures, we knew we would collect points because we believe we are currently the best team in the league,” she said. “Not that we are underestimating other teams, but we’ve shown this season that we are a force to be reckoned with. Our goal is clear, we are gunning for a place in the Premier League,” she said.
She further credited the results to the team’s hard work and commitment. “These results are just the fruits of our efforts. The girls have been putting in the work on the court. We have one vision to gain promotion and that has been our focus since the season started,” she added.
In other Super 10 matches, Unam Jaguars suffered a narrow 43-45 defeat against Trustco United on Friday. Meanwhile, Shadumbala outfit Tigers bounced back on Saturday to defeat Afrocats Lions 36-31. NUST were outplayed by Namibia Correctional Service (NCS), losing 58-37.
Wanderers clinched a thrilling 49-45 victory over United in a closely contested tie at the Trustco United netball courts.
In the first division, Afrocats Lions struggled as they went down 38-32 to United on Friday, while Golden Girls secured another win by beating Tigers 37-35.
Dimitri Bittler, a member of the league’s executive committee, said he was pleased with the league’s return. “We are happy netball is back. There were a lot of exciting matches played over the weekend, and fans were well entertained. The level of netball on display was top-class, and we hope the league continues to nurture and develop talent,” Bittler said.
