Namibia’s FNB Women’s Super League champions, Beauties FC, have been drawn in Group A of the CAF Women’s Champions League Cosafa qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 22 to 31 August.
They will face stiff competition against two-time CAF Women’s Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Ntopwa FC (Malawi) and Zesco Ndola Girls (Zambia). All matches in the group will be played at the University of Johannesburg’s AW Muller Stadium.
Beauties FC head coach Salome Iyambo acknowledged the challenge ahead, describing their draw as a “group of death” for the 2025 qualifier, but insisted the team is ready for the battle.
“We are ready for the fight. This is more than just a draw, it’s a true test of our strength, character and ambition. We respect every opponent, but we fear none. Let the battle begin,” said Iyambo.
Group B includes last year’s beaten finalists Gaborone United Ladies FC from Botswana, Young Buffaloes (Eswatini), and Kick4Life (Lesotho), forming another closely contested group.
In Group C, Herentals Queens (Zimbabwe) will face Clube de Desportos da Costa do Sol (Mozambique) and Olympic De Moroni (Comoros).
South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns bring a strong pedigree to the qualifiers, having won the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2021 and 2023, and featuring in all four continental finals to date. Despite losing on penalties to Green Buffaloes (Zambia) in the 2022 Cosafa qualifiers final, they advanced to the continental tournament as defending champions.
They did not participate in the 2024 regional qualifiers, which were won by compatriots University of the Western Cape.
The top team in each pool advances to the semi-finals along with the best second-placed side. In the case of Group A, the results against the team that finishes bottom of the pool will be disregarded for that calculation.
