The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has extended its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Charles Kauraisa, following his passing on Sunday.
On behalf of the executive council, management, staff of the NFA and the entire Namibian football fraternity, the association expressed sorrow at the loss of a man described as a true icon of the sport.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing on 3 August. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and all who were touched by his wisdom, humility and dedication to football,” stated the NFA.
The NFA hailed Kauraisa as a transformational and visionary leader, whose life’s work was dedicated to the development and integrity of Namibian football.
“His contribution to the sport is immeasurable, etched into every level of the game – from grassroots development to the international arena. He was not only a pioneer but also a tireless advocate for progress, unity and professionalism in our beloved sport,” they said.
As one of the founding members of African Stars Football Club, Kauraisa was instrumental in drafting the club’s constitution, establishing a legacy of organisational excellence that still stands today.
His commitment to football extended well beyond club structures.
Following Namibia’s independence, Kauraisa’s leadership proved pivotal.
“He served as the second president of the NFA and was the first to be democratically elected, a milestone that symbolised the dawn of a new era. His tenure was marked by a landmark achievement when, in July 1992, he led Namibia to full membership of Fifa during the Fifa Congress. This event unlocked global recognition and participation for our nation,” NFA said.
The NFA noted his service as chairperson of Blue Waters Sports Club and the Namibia National Soccer League (NNSL).
There, he played a critical role in unifying Namibian football beyond apartheid constraints.
He later served as chairperson of the Namibia Premier League (NPL), the successor to the NNSL, continuing his unwavering service to the sport.
“Throughout his career, Kauraisa was relentless in his pursuit of excellence. He worked tirelessly to secure sponsorships, improve the conditions for clubs and raise the standard of football across Namibia.
“Above all, he was a people’s leader, humble, approachable and committed to ensuring that football was a source of pride, unity and opportunity for all Namibians,” NFA stated.
“His legacy lives on in the structures he helped build, the lives he touched and the players and administrators he mentored. We will remember him not only for his institutional contributions, but for his humanity, vision and enduring love for the game. While we mourn the loss of this great son of the soil, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and passion. Kauraisa leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the NFA statement reads. –NFA
