Nghitumbwa: I am tired of fighting small boys … as he preps for WBO Global title fight

Fillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa has made it clear that he is done squaring off against “small boys” in the ring.

This is as he gears up for what promises to be one of the toughest tests of his career, an explosive WBO Global title clash against South Africa’s undefeated Mxolisi Zuma this Saturday at the Windhoek Country Club.

Nghitumbwa, who is signed to the prestigious MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing Academy, sees this fight as a major stepping stone toward a long-anticipated world title shot.

For the Namibian powerhouse, the bout represents far more than just another victory, it’s a definitive statement of intent.

“This is a big fight, and I am more than ready. I’ve been calling for challenges like this because I want to face real contenders. I want big fights, not small boys. That’s the level I’m at now,” said Nghitumbwa.

With an impressive professional record of 17 fights: 15 wins (13 by knockout), two losses and zero draws, Nghitumbwa is widely celebrated for his explosive power and refined technique in the super bantamweight division.

His recent wins against top-tier international opponents have firmly positioned him on the global radar, edging him ever closer to a world title opportunity.

Standing in his way is the formidable Zuma, who enters the ring with a flawless record of 10 wins, all coming by way of knockout. As of June 2025, Zuma’s 100% knockout ratio has turned heads and established him as one of the most dangerous rising stars in the division.

Speaking confidently about the upcoming bout, Zuma said his unbeaten record reflects the hard work he has put in at the gym. “Nghitumbwa is one of the best on the continent, and that’s exactly why I accepted this fight. I want to fight the best, and gain experience from every round. “Going the full distance would be great, but a knockout is just a bonus.

Nghitumbwa’s trainer, Nicky Natangwe, echoed the importance of the bout. He admitted that the team has struggled to secure worthy opponents for Nghitumbwa in recent months, which is why this fight means so much. “We’ve been looking for a fight that will really test Energy. Zuma must understand that this isn’t a trip to Namibia for fun. He’s here for war. He needs to be fully prepared.”

The event is expected to feature an exciting line-up of undercard bouts, making it one of the most anticipated boxing nights in Namibia this year.
