OTUMBOROMBONGA – The Okakarara constituency’s sole independent candidate, Florence Uapakua Ndinda, has pledged to champion inclusive economic opportunities and rural development.

Speaking to New Era last week, Ndinda, who will be the first to stand as an independent candidate in a constituency traditionally dominated by the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo), also pledged youth and women’s empowerment through education, training and entrepreneurship.

“I will also invest in local health and education systems for a stronger, healthier community,” she said.

Ndinda added that she will champion rural development and inclusive economic opportunities for the entire Okakarara constituency.

“I will also stand strong for promoting transparency, accountability and honest governance,” Ndinda said.

The independent candidate said her leadership reflects the value she inherited, that is, respect for the traditions, strength in unity and unwavering commitment to serve.

Ndinda further said that there is a lot of potential for economic growth, and her role in farming has increased her belief in that potential.

“As a woman in community leadership, it became even more apparent that women have a leadership role to play and I want to fill that void,” she said.

Asked on what triggered her to run for the constituency’s top political position, she said that she decided to compete for this position, not out of anger or defiance but because the political environment provides for growth.

“It will be unfortunate if we, particularly us young women, wait to be told what to do in this era of women emerging to leadership. So, I decided to rise and participate in leadership for our nation that expects and deserves so much from us,” she said.

The 42-year-old added that her experience and observations in the political sphere in the Okakarara constituency and Namibia at large, triggered her to run for the constituency councillor position.

Born in Okahitua village, Ndinda grew up in a political environment where her grandfather Ludwig Ndinda was one of the prominent leaders of the Ovaherero community, and she watched him in his cutting-edge role.

Her father, Mike Rapuikua Venaani, is a current Member of Parliament and is a seasoned politician.

He is also the father of Popular Democratic Movement leader McHenry Venaani.

These elections, Ndinda said, are more than just about casting a vote.

The independent candidate then called on Okakarara constituency’s inhabitants to place their trust in her, as she is no stranger.

One of the events Ndinda is known for is the establishment of the Oruharui Expo.

“Together, let us honour our past and shape a better future for the Okakarara constituency,” she stated. zngaruka@yahoo.com
