RUACANA – NamPower on Friday donated health and education equipment worth over N$570 000 to various institutions in the Omusati and Kunene regions.
The donations were handed over by acting Ruacana Power Station Manager, Sakaria Shivolo, on behalf of NamPower CEO Simson Haulofu.
In the statement read on his behalf, Haulofu reiterated NamPower’s commitment to supporting crucial sectors in Namibia through its corporate social investment initiatives.
He said the company’s focus on both education and health is aimed at fostering a productive and prosperous nation.
The donation included phonics and reading workbooks worth N$300 000 for Grade 1, 2, and 3 learners in the Kunene Region.
“These books, approved by the Ministry of Education, will serve as complementary material in the junior primary curriculum,” Haulofu said.
NamPower also donated 35 single-bed mattresses, valued at N$ 34 212, to the hostel at Uahekua Herunga Primary School.
“This donation directly benefits learners who live away from home, ensuring a more comfortable and supportive place to reside,” Haulofu said.
The company gifted an ambulance and various pieces of medical equipment to the Omona Watjihozu Health Centre, a donation valued at N$ 238 958 which the NamPower CEO said will significantly boost the health centre’s ability to provide timely and high-quality medical care to the community.
Omusati Health Director Alfons Amoomo acknowledged the urgent need for such assistance. He noted that while the region has 19 ambulances on its master list, many are old and need to be replaced.
Amoomo highlighted that the Ruacana Primary Health Care Clinic currently has no allocated ambulance, forcing staff to use ordinary pick-up trucks for emergency medical services.
“The new ambulance will help address a critical gap in emergency response,” he said.
