Learners discover body on way to school

RUNDU – A group of learners from Gcwagi village in the Kavango West region were left traumatised after discovering a body while walking to school on Wednesday, police said.

The Namibian Police were called to the scene following the discovery. Gcwagi village is located in Musese Constituency along the Rundu-Nkurenkuru road.“It is alleged that the deceased was found lying face down and motionless alongside the road by the school-going learners. Further information provided by community members indicates that the deceased lived alone in his homestead and was seen drinking traditional brew at a nearby shebeen in Gcwagi village the previous night,” said police spokesperson for Kavango West, Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga.

According to Muronga, a two-litre container of traditional brew was found beneath the deceased’s body at the scene.A preliminary examination of the body revealed minor blood stains from the nose and mouth; however, the autopsy will determine the official cause of death.The deceased was identified as Andreas Mazambo Namwira, a 55-year-old Namibian male originally from Gcamade village in Kavango West. His next of kin have been informed, and his remains were transported to Nkurenkuru police mortuary pending an autopsy.
