ONGWEDIVA – Namibia Annual Sports Awards (NASA) is set to shine brighter than ever as it returns to Ongwediva later this year, promising a spectacular celebration of the country’s sporting talent.
The awards return for the second time in Oshana following the successful hosting in 2019 by Ondangwa Town Council.
Scheduled for 22 November 2025, the 21st edition of the awards celebrates a milestone as the event expands beyond the capital to include regional participation, recognising athletes and sports personalities from all parts of Namibia.
The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC), the driving force behind the awards, has urged the nation’s business community to join as sponsors, offering a platform where corporate partnerships intersect with national pride.
Givean Samulandela, the commission’s marketing and public relations officer, emphasised the importance of sponsorships that not only elevate the awards but also support youth development, community programs, and the growth of sport across the country.
He urged businesses to seize the opportunity to become part of a legacy that celebrates hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence. Samulandela stated that the awards will include 19 categories honouring athletes with disabilities, coaches, teams, federations, and media personnel who have excelled in their fields.
He said the nomination process has been expanded this year, allowing federations to nominate up to three athletes per category, a move that is expected to increase participation and highlight the remarkable achievements of more Namibian athletes than ever before.
“Hosting the awards in Ongwediva reflects the NSC’s commitment to bringing national events to regional centres, boosting local economies, and giving communities outside the capital a chance to celebrate sport on a grand stage,” he said.
Chief administrator Freddy Mwiya has echoed the call for corporate engagement, highlighting that the event is expanding in scale and impact.
“The Namibia Annual Sports Awards is not just a ceremony, it is a celebration of unity, talent, and national identity. He encouraged businesses to support the event, promising that their contributions would amplify both community development and the growth of sport across the nation,” he said. The Ongwediva Town Council has pledged full support, making sure that the awards are not just a recognition for Namibia’s top athletes but also a memorable celebration for the whole community.
As the countdown begins, anticipation is building. The Namibia Annual Sports Awards will be more than just a ceremony. It will serve as a tribute to the dedication, resilience, and spirit of Namibian athletes, a platform for corporate Namibia to connect with the country’s sporting future, and a celebration that leaves a lasting legacy in Ongwediva and beyond.
