In a world where music often entertains, local Oshiwambo artist KangweSon (real name Leo Paulus Nghilifilwa) has chosen to inspire. His much-anticipated new album, ‘Your Crown Is Waiting’, carries a powerful message: everyone has a crown waiting for them- a reward that comes only after dedication, hard work and perseverance.

“This album is about everyday life. I create songs that people can relate to, understand easily and sing along to. The message is simple: ‘work hard on your dreams because something great is waiting for you in the future’,” he explains.

KangweSon’s rise to prominence has been fuelled by hit songs that resonated with audiences both personally and culturally. Tracks like ‘Suwala andja keekamba’ put food on his table, while ‘Ndikufepo’ episode 3 made him a recognised star, earning appreciation even from people who had never seen of him before.

The album, produced by Chaki Beat and Uncle V, with final mastering by KangweSon himself, features collaborations with artists such as Young T and DJ Vuyo, first-time partnerships in his career alongside longtime collaborators Zomblam, Chaki Beat, Makilla 1, Voster and Inspecter One. Despite challenges like CD piracy, which reduces artists’ earnings, KangweSon remains focused on delivering quality music to his fans.

His music transcends language barriers. He said his new fans who don’t understand Oshiwambo feel rhythm and culture in his songs.

KangweSon’s motivation now goes beyond money.

“I want my music to change lives, motivate people and teach lessons they didn’t know. People believe in me, and that keeps me going,” he stated.

Consistency has been a hallmark of his career. Since 2018, KangweSon has released eight albums, even producing music during the Covid-19 pandemic.

After a two-year break from music videos, he is set to release two new visuals in November, with bookings filling almost every weekend- a sign of his growing popularity.

Looking ahead, KangweSon dreams of collaborating with Namibian stars Patrick PDK and Page Ethnix, as well as international sensation DJ Maphorisa.
