ONGWEDIVA- Selma Naitsuwe Nelongo, a teacher and gospel artist, is touching hearts across Namibia with her uplifting gospel and powerful messages of faith.
Nelongo started singing in Sunday school at a young age and later joined school choirs at Oshakati Senior Secondary School.
She told VIBEZ! that when she moved to Windhoek for further studies in 2013, she continued her musical journey by joining the Uvitheni Evangeli Choir, where she gained more experience and confidence as a singer.
“In 2020, I released my first album titled ‘Omuwa Tonatitha Ndje’. Since then, I produced two more albums: ‘Omuwa Oye Omusita Gwandje Inandipumbwasha’ and her latest, ‘Uuyamba Ndapewa k’Omuwa’. Each album carries strong messages of hope, encouragement and thanksgiving,” she stressed.
Nelongo said her music career grew even stronger during 2019 when she worked at Klein-Up Resource School in the Hardap region.
“With no church or choir in the area, I felt lonely and spiritually empty. This motivated me to start sharing gospel messages on Facebook through a platform called ‘Twiimbileni Omuwa’, which quickly gained followers and helped many people find comfort,” she added.
Nelongo is also an author and composer. She writes songs based on real-life experiences, including challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition, she said her music aims to comfort those in pain, motivate those facing difficulties, and encourage people to trust in God.
She further said that, like many artists, she has faced challenges such as limited support and a lack of platforms for gospel musicians. Despite this, she continues to push forward by distributing her music through physical CDs, USBs and online platforms.
“Today, I focus on live performances in churches, community events, festivals and private functions. I also mentor other singers and compose songs for choirs, including the 11 choirs under Nyanyukwa Musical Works,” she stated.
Nelongo says her mission is simple: To promote and uplift gospel music that brings people together and strengthens faith.
“I am grateful for the gift God gave me,” she says. “I want to inspire and unite communities through music.”
She concluded that her growing influence proves that music, when shared with passion and purpose, can change lives.
