EPUKIRO – The Okonjoka football team from Aminuis won the preparatory games for the annual Winter Cup held at the Motsomi Primary School sports grounds on Sunday.
One of the competition’s organisers, Safe Kaiko, told Nampa in an interview on Monday that the purpose of the games was to prepare teams and players for the upcoming tournament slated for early August in Aminuis.
In the first semi-final, Okonjoka defeated their counterparts from Corridor 16 by a 1-0 scoreline, while Corridor 13 overcame Corridor 16 by 2-1 in the second semi-final. Okonjoka then won the preparatory games final after defeating Corridor 13 with a 4-2 scoreline on penalties after a goalless draw.
Okonjoka’s Koviao Kazeja was voted player of the series. In another friendly game on Sunday, Corridor 13 drew 1-1 against Motsomi Teachers Eleven.
Kaiko said there will be another friendly match between Rietquelle Teachers and their counterparts from Motsomi at the Motsomi Primary School sports grounds on Wednesday. By Monday, the Winter Cup had attracted 21 football teams which will vie for N$15 000 in early August.
